A highly valued possession of a Williams CGI employee is a Citizen Eco-Drive watch. Besides being structurally refined, this watch has an elegant material palette, making it the perfect challenge to digitally recreate. Having the real Citizen Eco-Drive watch to hand meant we were able to take very accurate measurements of every visible component; creating a full-3D CGI watch true to life.

With the watch modelled in 3D, it was time to move onto creating the materials. These we created using real-time texturing software suite provided by Algorithmic (Now Adobe). Moreover, “Substance Painter” and “Substance Designer”, which form the backbone of our materialling pipeline.

The image above shows the breakdown of the textures responsible for providing the watch with the correct material properties. Namely: Roughness (roughness/glossiness of surface), Metallic (whether surface is metallic or dielectric), Normal (small surface details) and Colour (colour of surface).
